The beloved police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last series wrapped up in recent years with a finale that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season will open with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new installment."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
