Her Royal Highness's Yearly Yuletide Service of Carols Spotlights Unsung Heroes
The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.
The sizable congregation will enjoy a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as award-winning actors.
Centred Around Kindness and Compassion
The central message of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.
Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.
"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the concert.
A Gradual Return
The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Musical Talent and Access
Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to budding artists aided by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the charity, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in the evening's event.
"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.
A Sisterly Duo
Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.
That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for community pantries.
Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts
The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.
The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
