Around 25,000 households in south-east Queensland were left without power on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms impacted the state, bringing powerful gusts hitting 109km/h.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Broad Destruction

Residents witnessed substantial frozen pellets reaching sizes of 7 centimeters in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that different parts across Queensland had been impacted by large hailstones.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair power throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams deployed to address the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victorian Weather Woes

At the same time, around one thousand households in Victoria also experienced power outages after the capital city recorded its most precipitation in a year and a half.

Emergency response teams handled nearly 600 requests for assistance across the area, mostly for property damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

• Werribee - saw considerable weather impact
• Hoppers Crossing area - numerous assistance requests
• Wyndham region - 179 emergency requests

At the height on the previous day, in excess of 28k electricity consumers in the state were without power.

Climate Outlook

Moist weather were predicted to continue along large portions of the state's eastern regions this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with continued thunderstorm potential anticipated across various areas of both regions.

Health Warning

Medical authorities cautioned that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, specifically given the ongoing climate situation.

This warning comes after historical occurrences where similar conditions led to significant health impacts in the area.
